Those two words, “I can’t”, is one of the most common phrases that you will hear from photographers or artists and especially from those who are just learning their craft. It is the phrase that will often bring a individual down into the depths of where they will never want to be. You will never get to where you want to be in photography if you continually and verbally speak those words. It is “not” a good thing…

Melissa Clifton, who has a great site full of tips for illustration and animation, has a tutorial posted on how to “Andy-Warhol-Up Your Photographs”, to make them look like soupcan-slash-Marilyn Monroe pop art silk screens. Looks fun, I might have to try this with a baby picture or something when I have some time to kill.

Martine is an Australian teacher and photographer living in Tokyo, and she has several galleries on her site including this interesting collection of Manhole Covers of Japan. As a former expat in Asia myself, I love this kind of thing.

Doing it right

Ryan McGinnis has an excellent post up on creating HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos using Photoshop. I haven’t done this yet at all; I haven’t had much motivation to, considering the garish haloed monstrosities most people call HDR. But obviously it can be done right, if you know what you’re doing. I’m going to have to remember this for times when the dynamic range of a scene looks too wide to capture.
